Getting Started

Your First Visit - New Patient Exam

At the first visit to our office the orthodontist will do a clinical evaluation. The doctor will give recommendations about your orthodontic treatment needs, estimated costs and treatment timing.

Your Second Visit - Orthodontic Records

If the orthodontist recommends that orthodontic treatment is required, an appointment will be made to gather diagnostic records. Diagnostic records are taken to fully evaluate your teeth and jaw relationship to determine the best course of treatment. Records typically include: plaster study models of the teeth, photos of the face and teeth, and x-rays. The orthodontist analyses this information to develop an individualized treatment plan for each patient. These records are also helpful in tracking the progress of treatment as the teeth move under orthodontic care.

Consultation

After the orthodontist has thoroughly evaluated your orthodontic records a consultation appointment will be made to discuss the treatment needs and goals. We will explain the treatment options and together determine the most suitable treatment plan. During this appointment we will also discuss payment options and answer any questions you may have.

Starting Treatment

The appointment when you get your appliances (braces, expanders, retainers etc.) usually lasts one to two hours. We will give you all the instructions necessary for a successful treatment.

Adjustments

Once treatment is started your orthodontic appliances require adjustments to work properly. Adjustment appointments are usually 20 to 45 minutes every 4 to 8 weeks depending on the stage of treatment. Our regular office hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm. We make every effort to be on time and do our best to accommodate our patient’s schedules. If you are absolutely unable to keep an appointment please notify us immediately so that it can be rescheduled. Cancel your appointment only if it is an emergency. Since most appointments are scheduled 4 to 8 weeks in advance you may have to wait several days to reschedule an appointment.

Payment

The cost of treatment depends on the complexity of the patient's orthodontic problem and the type of treatment required. We will discuss fees and payment options before treatment begins. We work hard to make orthodontic treatment affordable and we have payment plans to suit different budgets. We also accept payment by Visa and Mastercard. If you have insurance we will help you with the necessary paperwork to enable you to be reimbursed by your insurance plan.
